Botox vs. Fillers: What You Should Know

Botox vs. Fillers: What You Should Know

Rejuvenating the aging face with injectable treatments have undoubtedly become the trendiest and easiest non-surgical options for those looking to turn back the hands of time. These facial injectables can do wonders. They restore volume that has been lost, add contour and definition to the face, and smooth away winkles for a younger and more refreshed appearance. There are two kinds of facial injectables: Neuromodulator (eg Botox or Dysport) and Dermal Fillers. Although both of these products are used for facial rejuvenation, they address different concerns and areas of the face, which is why you should know the differences before your treatment.

Botox
Generally, Neuromodulator and Fillers are injected into separate areas of the face. Neuromodulators are typically used to treat the lines and wrinkle in the upper half of the face, that is, the area around the eyes and forehead. Neuromodulators such as Botox or Dysport, are relax the muscles under the skin to eliminate wrinkles and lines caused by movement. Starting about 4 days after treatment, the muscles that normally contract to form crows feet, frown lines and forehead lines begin to relax for a smoother appearance of the skin. Botox takes 2 weeks to fully go into effect, while Dysport usually responds within a week. Both last roughly 2-4 months.

Dermal Fillers
Dermal Fillers, on the other hand, are used to treat the lower half of the face from the eyes down and results typically last from 3 to 18 months depending on the product. Unlike Neuromodulators, Fillers add volume and definition to the face. Whether you are experiencing some loss of fat-pads in the cheeks or if you want fuller lips and a more defined jaw line, Dermal Fillers can add volume and contour for your desired look. They can be used to address or contour the following:

  • Nasolabial folds (folds running from the outer corner of the nose and down to the corners of the mouth
  • Marionette lines (vertical lines extending from the outer corners of the mouth and down to the jawline)
  • Cheeks
  • Lips
  • Nose (“Liquid Rhinoplasty”)
  • Temples
  • Hollowing tear troughs
  • Jaw
  • Chin

Whether you are looking to eliminate wrinkles or add volume to the face, Neuromodulator (Botox or Dysport) and Dermal Fillers are a safe, quick and easy way to enhance your appearance or turn back the time. A qualified and experienced medical provider who specializes in Facial Aesthetics should perform these injectable treatments to give you the look you desire.
