Looking for a more permanent lip enhancement solution? Lip lift procedure might be the right option for you. Lip lifting is a minimally invasive plastic surgery procedure that modifies the cosmetic appearance of the lips by reshaping them to balance the upper and lower lips or to increase their prominence. This procedure creates fuller and more distinct-looking lips. Dr. David Shamouelian, our highly-skilled facial plastic surgeon, has perfected the art of lip lift procedure to ensure appealing and natural-looking results.
Benefits of Lip Lift
- It creates more attractive-looking lips
- It reduces a longer upper lip, restoring a more well-balanced appearance
- Permanent result
- Discreet scars
- Quick procedure with minimal pain
How Lip Lift Works
Lip lift procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. It takes about an hour to complete. During the procedure, Dr. Shamouelian creates an incision along the base of the nose. A small area of the skin will then be removed in order to lift the lip upward and to increase the extent of the visible pink in the upper lip. After detailed and patient specific adjustments, the incision is meticulously closed with sutures, which will are typically removed after about a week.
What to Expect After the Procedure
Most of our patients experience mild swelling for a couple days after their lip lift surgery. Any pain or discomfort can also be alleviated with medications prescribed by Dr. Shamouelian after the procedure. Most patients go back to work after about a few days, once the sutures have been removed. However, physical activities and strenuous exercises should be avoided for at least 2-3 weeks following the procedure. The full result will be visible within a few weeks after the scar has become barely noticeable.
Is Lip Lift Right for Me?
Lip lift is ideal for individuals of all ages with a long upper lift. Some patients are simply born with a thin, long upper lip and are great candidates for this procedure. However, most people acquire this look with age due to loss of skin elasticity and the long-term effects of gravity. It is also suitable for patients with “duck lips,” when the lips are pushed out as a result of long-term lip fillers. The procedure is designed to shorten the skin portion of the upper lip. If your lips are not as full as you would like and you have a long space above your lip, you will likely benefit from this procedure.
