As the skin absorbs the light, the tissue is vaporized, removing aged and damaged skin cells from the outer layer. Fractional CO₂ laser resurfacing causes thermal damage, which in turn contracts the skin’s collagen, tightens the skin, and boosts collagen production and the growth of healthy skin cells.
